Warrant List
The Collin County Sheriff's Office is now posting a searchable list of
more than 35,000 active warrants on the county's web page. The list covers
active arrest warrants from Class-C misdemeanors to First-degree felonies, and
includes fine amounts, bond amounts and the name, physical description and the
last known address of an offender. The web page also has instructions posted on
how those on the list can pay off late fines and fees, plus ways to alert
authorities on where to find those being sought.
The Active Warrants List includes
offenses from fishing without a license to unpaid traffic tickets to burglary
and other felony crimes that have been committed in Collin County.
Late last year, the Collin County Sheriff's Office began posting the county jail's Current
Inmate List online as well. Both can
be reached from the Sheriff's Office section of the website.
Sheriff
Terry G. Box said: "The Internet is an important source of information in
today's world, and this addition to our website will allow the public access to
up-to-the-minute critical information."

Greating,
Okya, I'm giong to do my best to slwo down while I am typng. Just kidding!
I really do appreciate the input I receive about this newsletter. At times, I am rushed to get the information out and it is difficult to proof-read your own information. I view this newsletter as a community effort and I am always looking for suggestions and corrections. I have tried to keep this information as informal as possible, but it has become more difficult to maintain due to the circulation and complexity. In the end, it is designed to keep the community informed of what is taking place around us. Keep the comments coming!
Have you seen the public calendar yet? Did you know you can enter your own civic events? Give it a try! Just keep in mind that this is a calendar for community type events and that all events are moderated and require "release" before they show up. If you do enter your own event, make sure you put in as much info as you can. Links are especially useful; Simply point the reader to your web site or the event info.
Also, for those that send me information to include in my newsletter, please take a look at the articles here to see what the general "look" is. Really heavy formatting and fonts are not easy to work with. Pure text is the easiest to work with. PDF Files are very difficult to work with. I know many of you send me event posters in PDF format, but I just about have to retype the entire thing. Always use the who, what, where and when format and links are great. If you have pictures, I can sometimes include them. Thanks for making my life easier!
Traffic on Preston and SH 121 has been very difficult lately. The entire SH 121 corridor is a challenge due to construction. I am not receiving much info from TxDOT and I'm not sure the City is either. My personal observation is that it is best to avoid SH 121 and Preston for the time being. I personally use the alternate North/South roadways. If I am coming north on the Tollway, I exit at Legacy and head over to Parkwood and go north. If I am going South, I use Coit, Independence, Legacy or Parkwood, depending on where I am at. There are alternates, just plan ahead!
The Frisco City Council meeting that is normally scheduled for the 1st Tuesday in August (August 7th) has been moved to Wednesday, August 8th, due to National Night Out events.
National Night Out is fast approaching. Please see the article below for additional information. If you have never been involved in previous NNO events, you do not know what you are missing. This is a great time to meet your neighbors and also tell the criminals that Frisco is watching.
Don't forget, movies in the square will continue until August 10th at Frisco Square. Friday, July 27th features Happy Feet, which is a change from the original "Mean Girls". Get there early, enjoy meeting people and bring the bug spray in case it is needed.
I have had a very busy two weeks. Thanks are in order to the Frisco Roughriders, Texas Tornado, FC Dallas, City of Frisco and the Frisco Fire Department for helping me set up a visit by the International Air Cadet Exchange Program. Cadets from the UK, Turkey and Ghana visited Frisco on September 21st. I am not sure which venue they liked best; they seemed to get more excited as the visit went on. I know we ran over time on just about every venue. They really enjoyed the smoking room and tornado's in Safety Town! Since most of them were Soccer Fans, they loved Pizza Hut Park/FC Dallas. The behind-the-scenes tour at the Texas Tornado and Frisco Roughriders really made their day. I think they are starting to understand why those sports are so popular in Frisco.
Thanks are also in order to Mayor Pro Tem Jim Joyner and Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Joy West for spending part of their day by joining the tour. Dr. Joyner and Ms. West were the guides for the City Hall visit. We are fortunate to have them as elected officials!
Two of the cadets stayed at our home and I really enjoyed hearing about their culture. Besides, they really know how to throw a swimming party! My son, Brandon, is helping them on their tour and they are now in San Antonio. Their stops in Texas also included Houston and Austin. Of course, Frisco will be their favorite place I'm told!
I found an article from a few months ago about one of the many programs that is carried out by the Civil Air Patrol and Caps, so I placed it below. It helped that a picture of my son is in there :-)
Earlier on that same day, we had a visit from officials from the City of Rockwall. Former Mayor Kathy Seei organized the tour and Deputy City Manager Henry Hill was our City Hall tour guide. One focus of the tour was Frisco's commitment to the Arts. We were able to discuss the different art programs that Frisco and our Region instituted over the last few years. I think it is safe to assume that they really enjoyed their visit and liked those programs. I also wanted to thank the Prosper Mayor and City Council for allowing me to visit them last Tuesday at their Council meeting to discuss the role that Volunteer Center of North Texas plays in our region. Dana Riley, Associate Executive Director, joined me in the presentation and in answering questions. Look for a future Article on VCNT and the Collin County Council on Volunteerism in this newsletter. I enjoyed the visit and listening to the issues that Prosper is dealing with. Their challenges are not unlike what Frisco has gone through. They are a very hard working City and I look for some good things from our neighbors to the north.
I hope everyone has a great weekend and until next time.

Frisco National Night Out
As our city has continued to grow we
have been faced with more issues/challenges related to crime. Now more than
ever we encourage every community to get involved proactively by
partnering with the
Frisco Police Department and Frisco
Neighborhood Watch.
As you may be aware, every year on the first Tuesday of
August, the
Frisco Police Department, along with Frisco Neighborhood Watch, promote
block parties throughout the City of Frisco for "National
Night Out" (this year National Night Out will be on August 7th).
This annual event serves as a culmination of our year-long crime prevention
efforts and is a great way for neighbors to get out and meet each other.
During NNO, police/fire personnel,
Mayor and
city council members, other city officials, public safety-affiliated
volunteers and McGruff attend block parties throughout the city.
As a kick-off to NNO,
the City of Frisco will be hosting the 12th Annual Green Home -Health &
Safety Fair. The fair will be held on August 4th at The Commons Park from
9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The City of Frisco Green Home event is designed to
promote energy conservation and environmental preservation, and will feather
lots of energy and water conservation tips. The Health & Safety event will
provide free screenings by Centennial Medical Center and others. Exhibitors
representing numerous public safety/non-profit agencies will be on hand to
promote safety, health, education and awareness. Wiffle Ball Home Run
Derby, hosted by the City of Frisco Parks & Recreation Department and the
"Texas DPS Mobile Drive License Express"
providing driver's license renewals are just two of the special events. The
North Texas Tollway Authority will also be holding a drawing for a free toll
tag.
There will be a host of
other activities including face painting, fingerprinting, bounce houses,
clowns, robots, and much more. During the fair we will also be holding our
annual Carter BloodCare Blood Drive.
National Night Out serves
as a great way to kick-off or reinvigorate neighborhood watch efforts in
both new and older communities alike. We ask that all citizens, home
owners' associations and other neighborhood groups support this very
important crime prevention initiative by asking residents in every
community to host block parties and participate in the events listed below.
Feel free to go to
www.frisconeighborhoodwatch.com for more information about NNO
and to download the block party registration form - as well as to get

VCNT Director Named to "Power & Influence Top 50"
Dallas, Texas . . . The Volunteer Center of North Texas'
Executive Director Julie Thomas has been selected as one of NonProfit Times
magazine's 2007 NPT Power & Influence Top 50. This marks the 10th
year that NonProfit Times has named trendsetters in the nonprofit world. Last
year's awardees included Senator Charles Grassley, Melinda Gates of the Bill and
Melinda Gates Foundation, Dr. James Dobson of Focus on the Family, and Israel L.
Gaither, National Commander of the Salvation Army. Ms. Thomas and the other 2007
awardees will be honored at a gala at the National Press Club in Washington,

Ms. Thomas recently celebrated her 20th year as head
of the Volunteer Center of North Texas, which serves nearly 2,000 nonprofit
organizations in Dallas, Collin and Tarrant counties. Under her direction the
organization completed a successful $6.7 million capital campaign over a
20-month period, culminating in the move to a new headquarters debt-free in
2000. In addition, during her tenure the Volunteer Center received legislative
authority from the state in 1998 to conduct criminal background checks on
potential staff and volunteers for nonprofit organizations.
Prior to coming to the Volunteer Center in 1987, Ms. Thomas
directed education efforts for the Greater Dallas Chamber of Commerce, where she
was instrumental in designing and implementing the Adopt-A-School program and
other initiatives that combined public education programs with business support.
She currently serves on the boards of the Points of Light
Foundation and Central American Mission as well as the advisory board for
Project America. In 2003, President Bush appointed her to a three-year term to
the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation.

Collin, Dallas and Tarrant counties with services that include volunteer
recruiting and referral, corporate volunteer programs, professional training for
nonprofit staff, student programs, criminal background checks, disaster planning
and relief, a donated goods clearinghouse and a variety of other services that

the band throughout coming the year. Funds raised will help cover the cost of
needed equipment, music royalty fees, camps, private lesson scholarships and
costs associated with music contests.
This year, our first
March-A-Thon will be on August 18, 2007. The band will march a 10K/6 mile long
parade route, starting at Centennial High School and ending at the Tom Thumb
parking lot at Lebanon and Preston Road at 3:00.

residential and retail areas, including Plantation Resort, Preston Vineyards,

| Members from both squadrons worked tirelessly, devoting time and energy to answering questions and talking directly with a continuous line of students and teachers filing by the displays at the Expo, staged at one of American Airlines' maintenance hangars at DFW.
The CAP displays consisted of two aircraft outside the hangar and a booth inside that depicted cadets participating in various activities.
