I thought these were appropriate for the Fourth of July Celebration:

"America is much more than a geographical fact. It is a political and moral fact - the first community in which men set out in principle to institutionalize freedom, responsible government, and human equality."

-- Adlai Stevenson

"Freedom has its life in the hearts, the actions, the spirit of men and so it must be daily earned and refreshed - else like a flower cut from its life-giving roots, it will wither and die."

-- Dwight D. Eisenhower

"You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness. You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism."

--Erma Bombeck

CALENDARS

For those that are using my Community Calendar, I have made some modifications to make it more user friendly. I have turned on the ability for anyone to enter their own calendar events. If you are part of an organization that has a function or event coming up, feel free to enter it. It will not display right away as all new items must be approved before being made public.  This calendar is a community calendar and not for business or private usage.   You can find the calendar HERE on my web site or directly on the calendar web site.  Both sites allow modifications.  To keep the newsletter from getting too large, I am reducing the number of repeat articles and simply moving them to the calendar.

Warrant List

The Collin County Sheriff's Office is now posting a searchable list of more than 35,000 active warrants on the county's web page. The list covers active arrest warrants from Class-C misdemeanors to First-degree felonies, and includes fine amounts, bond amounts and the name, physical description and the last known address of an offender. The web page also has instructions posted on how those on the list can pay off late fines and fees, plus ways to alert authorities on where to find those being sought.

The Active Warrants List includes offenses from fishing without a license to unpaid traffic tickets to burglary and other felony crimes that have been committed in Collin County. Late last year, the Collin County Sheriff's Office began posting the county jail's Current Inmate List  online as well. Both can be reached from the Sheriff's Office section of the website.

Sheriff Terry
G. Box said: "The Internet is an important source of information in today's world, and this addition to our website will allow the public access to up-to-the-minute critical information."

Happy Fourth of July!!  During the Independence Day Celebration, I hope you and your entire family have a relaxing day and the rain does not interfere in your plans.

Hopefully, you are flying your U.S. Flag today. For Flag Facts and Etiquette, visit HERE.  For information about today's activities in Frisco, please see the articles below.

newsletter titleFun Fact:  In July 1776, 2.5 million people lived in our newly formed nation.  This July 4th, there are approximately 302 million.

Please be careful today.  Keep in mind, there is a City of Frisco ordinance that prohibits the use of fireworks inside City Limits.  As of now, the Frisco Freedom Fest is still on, but fields around the stadium will be muddy. I encourage you to use the nice and easy remote parking option and the bus service that is being provided. Make sure you visit the Frisco Freedom Fest web site for up-to-date information on the many activities being planned for your family.

We sure have received  a lot of rain lately. I left town for a short vacation and it seems that the sky has opened up!  Where are we at with the water restrictions?  As many of you know, Frisco along with many other cities in the
NTMWD modified their stage 3 restrictions.  As of July 1st, you can now water two times per week.  You can also wash your vehicles.   The latest development was yesterday. NTMWD has completely removed the Stage 3 restrictions and is now in a water conservation plan instead of a drought plan.  Basically, the water conservation plan is Voluntary.

While not speaking for the City, I am sure that a public announcement with details will follow from the City of Frisco shortly.  I would expect to see the Stage 3 plan lifted completely. However, please keep in mind, it is important to continue to work towards lowering our per-capita usage of water so that our region can secure further water sources.  It is difficult to make the argument to State Officials that we need additional supply when we waste water.  Common sense would say that water sprinkler systems should be turned off for the foreseeable future!

Have a great week!

Maher Maso

COMMUNITY STAGE TO FEATURE A RECORD 18 PERFORMERS FOR FRISCO FREEDOM FEST

(July 3, 2007) Don't miss Frisco's homegrown performers light up the Community Stage at the 6th annual Frisco Freedom Fest on Wednesday, July 4.   A record eighteen performers will take the stage. We have a great
variety of entertainers who will satisfy everyone's music interest.

Samantha Lee, 10, will kick off the event at 3:55 p.m. July 4 at City Hall Plaza singing the National Anthem.

Returning for his third Frisco Freedom Fest appearance is Cutta C. He has been performing professionally for more than four years and has graced some of the same stages as Monica, Pretty Ricky, Lil' Scrappy, Marques Houston, DJ Unk and Paul Wall. Cutta C also released his debut album Proof of Purchaze last year, which has sold several thousand copies.

Also appearing for their second consecutive year is Providence. Lead singers of the band, Matt and Christa Wright, released their first CD, Close Enough to Whisper, in 2004, which includes all original songs in an energetic and artistic modern acoustic and electric rock style. They will perform a variety of songs from their CD and several favorites from previous decades.

Piano entertainer, Greg Anderson, will be a first for the Community Stage. He has performed in piano clubs, on cruise ships and in eight other counties primarily in Europe and the Middle East. Anderson plans to woo the crowd with rock 'n' roll dance music that will bring the crowd to their feet.

The line up also includes performers who will be singing current country hits that everyone can sing and a collection of Broadway songs.

Closing the show will be Midlife Crisis. MidLife Crisis is a Frisco-based five piece band, whose cover music includes several decades of classic rock and roll, country tunes and a handful of original work. Their performance will include songs by artists with top 10 Billboard hits. They have recently played in The Colony, Richardson, Addison and North Dallas.

BGCCC School Supply Drive

While our
Boys & Girls Club of Collin County kids are enjoying fun days at our summer camps and not a thought is given to going back to school. . .

we must begin to prepare for the beginning of their new school year. Our kids desperately need school supplies that their parents can not afford to buy.

Do you remember what is was like, to go with mom and/or dad to buy your NEW SCHOOL SUPPLIES?  What fun it was to take them out and look at them and them carry them all to school on the first day!  It just doesn't get much better than that for a child and we don't want our kids to miss out on that wonderful and exciting experience!  Nor do we want our kids to feel different than their peers.

Won't you help???

When you are shopping for school supplies for your children, please remember ours and grab a few items for them.  If all of our friends and supporters can pitch in, just a little, our kids will have a great first day back to school!

Talk to co-workers, neighbors and family members and collect items together or ask your company to adopt several kids.

This is a great opportunity to make a BIG difference in the life of a very deserving child.

For additional information about school supply donations, contact Angie Toles at 214-544-8924 ext. 113.

Spotlight: Renee Ehmke

In the last newsletter, I wrote about Bob Allen, who has served our City in many different ways and will continue to serve our City.

In this newsletter, I thought I would try and spotlight a
volunteer, not just an elected official.  The person that came to mind is one of the hardest working volunteers I
have had the privilege of getting to know over many years. Unfortunately, she is also an elected official!  So much for that idea  :-)

Renee is a Frisco Independent School District Trustee. Renee, her husband Chad and their four children moved to Frisco in 1996.  She has a bachelor's degree in education and was a middle and high school teacher in Wichita, Kansas.

Renee was first elected as an FISD Trustee in 2004 and also serves on the Curtsinger Elementary PTA board and the Wester Middle School PTO Board.

My first exposure to Renee was at Curtsinger Elementary where our children attended school.  Renee was the type of person that immediately stood out in a crowd as a very passionate volunteer.  For those that have visited the book fair at Curtsinger, you understand what I am talking about.  Renee helped guide the book fair into a very impressive program. Thanks to her and the many volunteers, it is something that Curtsinger is very proud of.

How Renee balances her volunteer work at the Elementary and Middle School level as well as serve as a Trustee in the fastest growing school district in the State simply amazes me.  Oh, we can't forget being a mother of four and a wife!   She once was quoted as having said "Dr. Reedy doesn't sleep".  Well, I know why:  It is because she keeps calling him about what the next project should be.

I am very proud of Renee for a recent accomplishment that is near and dear to my heart:  Her continuing Education.  Renee's achievement of newsletter titleMaster Trustee designation by the Texas Association of School Boards.

Only 35 school board members in the entire state and only four in region 10 achieved this designation.  It is not an easy thing to do and requires a commitment of time and effort. The Master Trustee status is the highest designation recognized by the TASB.   I want to personally thank Renee for making the commitment to serve our Citizens in the best manner possible and seeking out the best tools available to do just that.  Having attended TML training over the last seven years, I understand how much time it can take away from her family.  Please thank Renee the next time you see her for her level of commitment and dedication to serving our school district.

While Renee is a model Frisco volunteer, I can't help but also mention her love for her family and their involvement in her life.  Renee's hard work and dedication has even rubbed off on her children. You may have recently read about her son, Sam.   Just like his Mom, Sam saw a situation that needed attention and promptly took action.

Thanks to Sam's quick thinking at Curtsinger Elementary last January, he was able to perform the Heimlich maneuver on student who was seated at the same table as him during lunch. Even though Sam was only 11, I was not surprised when I first heard about this.  It runs in the family  :-)

Express Cheer/Clothe A Child

I have previously spoken about the Clothe A Child program that isnewsletter title held annually in Frisco.  I have attended this worthwhile cause several times over the last few years and I can tell you that the joy it brings to families and especially the children cannot be measured.

Clothe-A-Child (CAC) has partnered with Kohl's Department Store to serve the new clothing needs of elementary school children within Frisco.

School counselors at Frisco ISD elementary schools identify children through interaction with the families and the free and reduced lunch program.

Each year, Kohl's opens their doors early one Saturday morning to CAC at no cost to the program.  Kohl's provides adequate staff and support to run the store.

This year, Express Cheer has teamed up with Frisco Clothe a Child  and the Frisco Roughriders for a special promotion.

Help Express Cheer raise money by purchasing tickets for the Wednesday August 8, 2006 Roughriders game.  Tickets are only $15 and you will receive a ticket in the Bullpen section, a limited edition roughriders baseball cap, pre-game performance by the Express Cheer, a chance to win RoughRiders prizes, Free player autographs and a free "PlayBall" game program at the enterance.

Deadline for ticket purchases is July 27 and Quantities are limited.   For Additional Information, contact Debra Newby at 972-682-9953 or via E-Mail.

The arts deepen our understanding of the human spirit, extend our capacity to comprehend the lives of others, allow us to imagine a more just and humane world. Through their diversity of feeling, their variety of form, their multiplicity of inspiration, the arts make our culture richer and more reflective - Jonathan Fanton, President, MacArthur Foundation.

Frisco Community Theatre News

It's time to renew your membership!

Our 24th season begins in June 2007, and so do the new year's memberships.  In our last season, we saw rocky times as the Youth Center building (our home for over twenty years) was declared structurally unsafe, but we've persevered, successfully mounting the regional premier of Tennessee Williams' drama, "The Two-Character Play" in the Frisco City Council Chambers.

Now our challenge will be to find a temporary home or make other arrangements in order to mount the upcoming season's shows.  Your member dues and donations will help pay for space to make our performances possible.

We also encourage you to participate in the election of new Board Members at the General Membership Meeting on Sunday, July 29 at 3 pm (separate notice will be forthcoming).

We welcome your ideas and suggestions as we discuss the future of FCT in serving a rapidly expanding and increasingly diverse community.

Remember, your $25 annual membership dues are tax-deductible, as are your generous donations.  Simply print out the attached membership renewal form to fill out and mail with your check payable to: FCT Memberships, P O Box 1221, Frisco, Texas 75034-0021.

You may also make a donation through our website at www.friscocommunitytheatre.com .  Under "Tickets and Donations," select "Donations." On the "Two Character Play" page, choose "Other" and enter your amount, then pr! oceed with the checkout through our Tix service.

Come join us while we grow and adapt as part of the vibrant greater Frisco  community! Thank you for your continued support,

The FCT Board of Directors
