Warrant List

The Collin County Sheriff's Office is now posting a searchable list of more than 35,000 active warrants on the county's web page. The list covers active arrest warrants from Class-C misdemeanors to First-degree felonies, and includes fine amounts, bond amounts and the name, physical description and the last known address of an offender. The web page also has instructions posted on how those on the list can pay off late fines and fees, plus ways to alert authorities on where to find those being sought.

The Active Warrants List includes offenses from fishing without a license to unpaid traffic tickets to burglary and other felony crimes that have been committed in Collin County. Late last year, the Collin County Sheriff's Office began posting the county jail's Current Inmate List  online as well. Both can be reached from the Sheriff's Office section of the website.

Sheriff Terry G. Box said: "The Internet is an important source of information in today's world, and this addition to our website will allow the public access to up-to-the-minute critical information."

Greetings,

I hope everyone had a very safe and enjoyable spring break.  I know it has been a while since I sent out the last newsletter, but things have been very busy on this end.

Speaking of Spring Break and children,  please keep in mind that Frisco is a family town.  Please be careful out there, especially during school hours.  Some kids walk, some ride their bikes and some are just starting to drive.  It is that third group I want to focus on, especially since my son also just started driving. Kristin Kucholtz asked me to mention the challenges that new teen drivers face especially since her daughter also just started driving. Please remember: There are many teens just starting to drive in Frisco.  Please be patient with our newest drivers and set a good example by being kind and considerate (which is something you should do all the time!).  How many times were you angry at that "slow" driver in front of you and gave them that "dirty" look when you passed them only to find that they could have been your son or daughter (never mind that they probably were doing the speed limit also!).   Just remember, these teens are just learning to drive and need that little extra bit of patience until experience catches up with them.

You will find information in this newsletter about the
Frisco Relay for Life.  I was given the opportunity to speak to the Survivor Celebration that was held last Thursday at Centennial Medical Center in Frisco.  While I am blessed to be a cancer survivor, I was very nervous speaking to the survivors.  As I told them, I can talk all day long about budgets, water issues, or just about any governmental issue in Frisco. However, I have never really discussed my cancer in a public setting like that. I did not know what to expect. Thankfully, everyone made me feel really at ease and it was refreshing to talk about that stage of my life with the group.

Please take the time to read about Relay for Life below. As honorary chair of this years event, I encourage everyone to get involved and make a difference.

I took the opportunity to clean up the e-mail list, so hopefully many of you that have been getting duplicates are no longer getting them.  If you are getting a duplicate e-mails, simply look at the very bottom of this newsletter and click on safe unsubscribe from the duplicate e-mail address (don't use the one you want to keep)!  Or, you can simply
E-mail me and I will take care of it.  Those that were involved in the Comcast/Roadrunner conversion, please let me know if you are still receiving duplicates.

We received some much needed rain this last week and Lake Lavon continues to improve. Keep in mind, we are still under Stage 3 Restrictions.
newsletter titleHowever, you are now allowed to wash your cars and/or motorcycles.  You may wash your vehicle on any day and at anytime with a hand-held hose and a spray nozzle that shuts off water flow when not in use.  I had asked our public works department to check into this at a Council meeting since I had received this request from several citizens. Our staff brought this issue up at one of the regional meetings and modified our restrictions to allow this use.

Don't forget, you can send me items to place on my community calendar for civic functions.  One of the challenges in Frisco is keeping up with everything that is taking place. My next project is to create a section that has links to the different calendars in our area.  If you have a calendar you would like listed, please let me know.

As I mentioned earlier, March was a very busy month.  Mixed in with all the regular meetings, we had our annual all-day work session for the Arts of Collin County Project, spent numerous hours on the 121 issue including speaking with congressman Sam Johnsons representatives and two radio interviews, attended the FC Dallas kick-off luncheon, attended the Frisco Family Services annual Gala, attended a transit meeting on behalf of Mayor Mike Simpson in Irving, had our town hall meeting, attended the Collin County Community College Foundation meeting, attended Arts of Collin County meetings and public presentation, had a Volunteer North Texas board meeting, several meetings with citizens and  local companies, attended our police department annual banquet, attended a farewell reception for our Assistant City Manager, Jason Gray, attended the reunion/new inductee of the 21 for 21st Century and of course, Survivor Celebration for Relay for Life.

Busy, yes. Thankful that I have been given the opportunity to serve you, yes.

Until next time...
Arts of Collin County Public Forum

The Public Forum held on Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. in the beautiful City Council Chambers of Frisco City Hall was a great success. Numerous members of the community came out to take part in an updated presentation and discussion on the final design of Phase 1 of the Arts of Collin County Commission arts park and hall.

Steve Matthews, President of Arts of Collin County Commission, Inc. opened the public forum with an overview of the arts park project along with James Baudoin, Executive Director.

Michael Tingley, Principal Architect from BOORA Architects along with Mary Margaret Jones, Landscape Principal from Hargreaves & Associates, presented updated images on the final design and construction plans for the 2100-seat hall, outdoor performance meadow and stage, sculpture garden, creek and trail improvements, parking, and site improvements.

newsletter titleAn updated rendering showcases the multi-level lobby. New images for the lobby, community and donor rooms were included in the presentation. Information was also presented regarding the sustainable design to harvest storm water on the site and redistribute dirt excavated for construction into unique identity berms along the site's perimeter. Sample materials for the interior and exterior of the hall were also available to provide a hands-on review by the public.

After the presentation, Mayor Mike Simpson of Frisco spoke to the unprecedented nature of the project involving the Owner Cities of Allen, Frisco, and Plano and the absolute need for Collin County to have the facilities that the arts park will provide.

The audience was given the opportunity to ask questions regarding the design and progress on the project. The discussion focused on the uniquely superior acoustic design of the multi-purpose performance hall chamber and the anticipated enhancements it will provide not only to residents wishing to attend events, but for local organizations to have the much needed facilities to grow and thrive in this area.

Thanks to all who attended and who continue to support Arts of Collin County.

The southern portion of the Dallas North Tollway will be closed in both directions from midnight, Friday, April 6 to noon, Sunday, April 8, in order to install new bridge beams for the Cedar Springs Bridge.

Anyone who plans to drive near the south end of the Tollway should seek alternate routes, including IH-35 and US 75, during this time. South bound motorists will have to exit at Northwest Highway or before. North bound motorists will be able to enter the Tollway at Mockingbird Lane. Motorists should expect and plan for delays in this area.

The NTTA has placed signs along the Tollway to assist motorists.

Currently, the east bound lanes of Cedar Springs Road are closed, and all but one lane of west bound traffic on Cedar Springs is closed. During the weekend Tollway closure, all lanes of Cedar Springs Road over the Tollway will be closed until 8 a.m. on Sunday morning. The one west bound traffic lane on Cedar Springs Road will reopen after the closure; with the original four lane configuration returning after the south end project is complete.

S.H. 121 Tolling Continued..

I wanted to thank everyone who responded to my request to send your comments to TxDOT regarding the tolling of S.H. 121.  I want you to know that I appreciate you taking the time to express your views. Our State Officials as well as TxDOT needed to hear your views.  I can't recap all the things that have taken place since my last newsletter as things have been moving fast. I have not given up on changing the minds of TxDOT or our State Officials on this subject. The long-term ramifications of this bad decision will haunt our region for a very long time if we don't take a stand right now.  I especially want to thank County Commissioner Phyllis Cole and County Commissioner Jack Hatchell for also attempting to protect our citizens by sending their input for the public hearing that TxDOT held.

As many of are aware, several bills were filed that will try to put a halt to CDA's for the time being. This site has some very good information on what is happening at the State Level to stop this madness.  If you do not see your Representative listed HERE, please call them and ask them why they are not supporting the moratorium. I can't understand why any local elected official would support selling off Texas assets to foreign companies with so many questions still out there. What is the total cost to our taxpayers?  Why are we signing a long-term contract that would prevent the State from making improvements to other nearby highways (Which makes no sense at all!).  Please take the time and continue to contact our State Legislators and let them know you oppose this process.

 Relay For Life Frisco

April 20,2007
Pizza Hut Park
[Join me in helping support Cancer Research. As Honorary Chair and a cancer survivor, I encourage you to visit the Relay for Life web site and donate whatever you can.  Help support those that will be out there walking through the evening.  If you have never attended one of these events; it is fun for the entire family.  You will find a festive environment as the kids play their games and "camp out".  The sea of tents along with the many activities makes this event a great way to spend time with your family while supporting a very important cause. -- Maher Maso]

Relay for LifeRelay For LifeŽ is a fun-filled overnight event designed to bring together those who have been touched by cancer in our community.

At the event, we celebrate survivorship and raise money to help the American Cancer Society in its mission to save lives, help those who have been touched by cancer, and empower individuals to fight back. During the event, teams of people gather at schools, fairgrounds, or parks and take turns walking or running laps. Each team tries to keep at least one team member on the track at all times.

But, Relay is much more than a walk around a track. It is a time to remember those lost to cancer and celebrate those who have survived. It is a night for people who have shared the same experience to comfort and console one another. During this event, we honor survivors during the Survivors Lap and we remember those we lost to cancer during the Luminaria Ceremony. We also celebrate life, friendship, and a chance to work together toward a cancer-free future.

Collin County ImageMost importantly, Relay gives you the power to help in the fight against cancer. By joining together as volunteers and donors, our efforts help the American Cancer Society strive toward a future where cancer doesn't take the lives of our friends and family.

Sign up today to become a part of the Relay phenomenon. Together we will fuel the work - and the hope - that can help make a cancer-free future a reality.

BUSINESSES NEEDED to SPONSOR $100.00 CANCER FACT SIGNS

This sponsorship provides an opportunity to visually reach all the Relay For Life-Frisco participants.  Signs stating cancer facts will be placed around the entire track.  For your generous contribution of only $100.00  you will receive the following benefits:
  • Your business name will be printed on a cancer fact sign
  • Your business will receive recognition during the event
  • Your business will be listed in the Relay For Life program
What a great way to stretch your advertising dollar.  People from all over Frisco, will know that you support the American Cancer Society and their work toward a cure for Cancer.

The Two-Character Play

Frisco Community Theatre
presents:

The regional premier of Tennessee Williams'
"The Two-Character Play"

April 12th, 13th, 14th at 8 p.m. and April 15th at 2 p.m.
In the City Council chambers at the new Frisco City Hall
6101 Frisco Square Blvd, Frisco TX.

Two actors, a brother and sister, meet in the empty playhouse where their theatre company is scheduled to perform that evening. But apparently the other actors have deserted them, and absconded with their money, so the two decide to perform the "Two-Character Play," extemporizing the parts not memorized or not yet written. Thus the play-within-! a-play begins, and it proves to be so compelling, and so deeply affecting, that soon both they and the audience are no longer sure as to where the play stops and real life takes over. In the end unanswered questions linger, but, with them, overtones of larger truths revealed and deeper meanings brought into light at last.
