Warrant List

The Collin County Sheriff's Office is now posting a searchable list of more than 35,000 active warrants on the county's web page. The list covers active arrest warrants from Class-C misdemeanors to First-degree felonies, and includes fine amounts, bond amounts and the name, physical description and the last known address of an offender. The web page also has instructions posted on how those on the list can pay off late fines and fees, plus ways to alert authorities on where to find those being sought.

The Active Warrants List includes offenses from fishing without a license to unpaid traffic tickets to burglary and other felony crimes that have been committed in Collin County. Late last year, the Collin County Sheriff's Office began posting the county jail's Current Inmate List  online as well. Both can be reached from the Sheriff's Office section of the website.

Sheriff Terry G. Box said: "The Internet is an important source of information in today's world, and this addition to our website will allow the public access to up-to-the-minute critical information."

This is not an official publication of the City of Frisco. Using e-mail and web sites to communicate with the Citizens of Frisco is something I started in Late 1999. All opinions stated in this newsletter are not official positions or opinions of the City Staff, Mayor or Council.

Greetings,

I hope March is starting out to be a great month for you.  As usual, February was another  very busy month in many different ways.

I had the opportunity to see many of you at the Mayor Mike Simpson roast on February 24th.  It was a lot of fun roasting our Mayor and also raising money for a great cause, The Miracle League of Frisco.  That same evening, Collin County Community College Education Foundation, a board that I serve on,  held "Monopoly Madness" at The Shops at Willow Bend.  This event is always well attended and, as usual, was a huge success. What else is new in Frisco? Multiple events at the same time!

Don't forget, on Monday, March 5th, Frisco will hold the first Town Hall meeting of 2007 (see below).  Please plan on attending to learn more about what is happening in our City.  Also, at our next City Council meeting, we will hold a public hearing about a proposed clean air ordinance. Your opinion matters, so please attend if you want to weigh in. I know many of you have sent me e-mails on the subject and I welcome that form of communication also.

What a wind storm we received last week!  I hope everyone made it through okay.  Susan Fletcher, who is always there to help me with her creative skills, sent these pictures to me.  Please be careful Frisco Residents repairing roofif you decide to fix your roof or fence on your own.  If you are not sure; hire an expert.  A neighbor and friend of mine, who happens to be a good handyman, can always help with minor repairs.  E-mail me if you need his number!  Always check references and be careful of the fly-by-night operations that always seem to show up at your door.  If you see any dangerous situations, always contact the City or Police Department.  View across Baxter Brinkmann's ranchAlso, I am proud to say that vehicle issues were kept to a minimum thanks to the smart driving by our residents. I know the visibility was poor, as can be seen by this view across Baxter Brinkmann's ranch, but all in all, our residents handled it well!

Please continue to water only when needed as we get ready for another hot summer!

Until next time...

Town Hall Meeting

Mark your calendar for the first town hall meeting of 2007.  The meeting will be held on Monday, March 5th at the George A. Purefoy Municipal Center at 6101 Frisco Square Boulevard.  The meeting time will be 7:00 PM and will be held in the Frisco City Council Chambers.

The agenda, to date, looks like this:

1) Welcome
2) Introduction of Mayor's Youth Council
3) Project Safe Childhood - Internet Safety
4) Police Department Programs (Drug Education & Lock, Take and Hide)
5) Clean Air Programs
6) Green Building Programs
7) Recycling Efforts
8) Energy Saving Programs
9) Water Conservation
10) Roads Update
11) Introduction of Frisco City Hall 101 Class 2
12) Post Office Update
13) Question and Answer

As you can see, it will be a very full evening filled with information for our Citizens. There is also an opportunity for you to ask any city related questions and to also meet your Mayor, Council and City Administration.

FFS Annual Gala

Frisco Family Services 13th annual Gala - "Boots, Bandanas & Bowties" 03/03/2007

Plans for Frisco Family Services at Center's signature fundraising gala are well under way and this year's event, Boots, Bandanas & Bowties, is one everyone should attend.  The 13th annual event is Saturday, March 3, 2007 at the beautiful Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center in Frisco.

Event Co-chairs, Joni Klarin and Carol Wilson anticipate welcoming more than 800 guests who will dust off their boots, dress in their best western attire, and  enjoy an evening of entertainment and fundraising benefiting those in need in our community.  The evening will include mechanical bull riding, armadillo races and a Texas Shoot Out Challenge.  Guests can perform the Texas Two-Step to live music by Jon Christopher Davis - Lonestar Attitude and enjoy fabulous food from area restaurants. New to the event this year is a Margarita Bar Drawing.  Attendees can purchase a special margarita that will enter them in a drawing for an extraordinary prize.  For those who like to press their luck, there will be a casino with black jack, craps, roulette and Texas Hold 'Em Poker.

An array of silent auction items including: jewelry from Classique Jewelers, sporting event tickets, furniture, entertainment, weekend getaways, clothing, spa treatments, unique theme baskets and more will provide many bidding opportunities.  An exciting live auction promises to be a highlight of the evening, giving guests the opportunity to bid on exceptional big-ticket items such as a summer vacation home in Winter Park, Colorado, a trip to Florida, a golf and spa resort in Arizona, a ride in a fighter jet, professional photography session, an exquisite piece of jewelry, a Girlfriends Getaway to name just a few.

Participating in these auctions is also a great opportunity for guests to demonstrate their compassion for those in need in our community.  "The services and assistance we provide are made possible only through the caring generosity of citizens, organizations and businesses in Frisco.  Helping families and individuals in crisis become self-sufficient serves to strengthen our community," says Joni Klarin.  The best part of the evening will be the conclusion when one lucky person will be the winner of a 2007 Lexus IS 250.

Tickets are $100 and only 750 tickets will be sold.  Everyone is encouraged to attend and reservations are $65 per person or $850 for a reserved table for 10. For more information on sponsoring, donating an auction item, or to purchase tickets, visit www.friscocenter.org or call 972-335-9495.

 Relay For Life Frisco

April 20,2007
Pizza Hut Park

Collin County ImageRelay For LifeŽ is a fun-filled overnight event designed to bring together those who have been touched by cancer in our community. At the event, we celebrate survivorship and raise money to help the American Cancer Society in its mission to save lives, help those who have been touched by cancer, and empower individuals to fight back. During the event, teams of people gather at schools, fairgrounds, or parks and take turns walking or running laps. Each team tries to keep at least one team member on the track at all times.

But, Relay is much more than a walk around a track. It is a time to remember those lost to cancer and celebrate those who have survived. It is a night for people who have shared the same experience to comfort and console one another. During this event, we honor survivors during the Survivors Lap and we remember those we lost to cancer during the Luminaria Ceremony. We also celebrate life, friendship, and a chance to work together toward a cancer-free future.

Collin County ImageMost importantly, Relay gives you the power to help in the fight against cancer. By joining together as volunteers and donors, our efforts help the American Cancer Society strive toward a future where cancer doesn't take the lives of our friends and family.

Sign up today to become a part of the Relay phenomenon. Together we will fuel the work - and the hope - that can help make a cancer-free future a reality.

Also, Support Relay for Life with the Texas Tornado.  Come out to the Texas Tornado game on March 4th or March 9th and help support the Frisco Relay for Life!  Moer than 30% of proceeds from ticckets purchased with the Relay for Life Coupon will be donated directly back to Frisco Relay for Life.

Leadership Frisco/BGCC

For immediate release:

The Boys and Girls Club of Collin County - Frisco Branch

Needs a 29-Passenger Bus

February 1, 2007 - Among the hustle and bustle of Frisco today, you can't help but notice thousands of children scurrying around our parks, schools, and shopping centers. The Frisco Independent School District, the single largest employer in the city, will cater to 24,000 students this spring.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Collin County (BGCCC) - Frisco Branch reaches out to hundreds of children every day. Core programs in Character and Leadership Development, Education, Health, Sports, and the Arts help children develop to their full potential.

Many single-parent families and families where both parents are working cannot care for their children after school or during the summer. More than 55 percent of the children at most Clubs come from families earning less than $25,000 a year. With an annual cost of $500 to serve each child, BGCCC depends heavily on corporate and community support for program activities.

Leadership Frisco Class X, a volunteer program sponsored by the Frisco Chamber of Commerce, wants to purchase a new, 29-passenger bus for the BGCCC.

"Our vans are old and we are in dire need of getting them replaced," said Christina Alford, Chief Executive Officer of the BGCCC. "Transportation is a critical part of our business and serving Frisco's children while keeping them safe is our number one priority."

The bus costs $43,959 and Leadership Frisco hopes to raise $60,000 where the remaining $16,041 will go toward a new computer lab for the BGCCC.

Please make your tax-deductible donation payable to The Boys and Girls Club of Collin County, and mark it "Bus." Mail your donation by April 1, 2007 to Leadership Frisco Class X at the Frisco Chamber of Commerce, 6843 Main St., Frisco, TX 75034. For more information, call the Boys and Girls Club of Collin County at 214-544-8924 or visit www.bgccc.org.

Lamar Hunt Pioneer Cup

FRISCO, Texas - In honor of the late Lamar Hunt, the operator Lamar Hunt and investor of both FC Dallas and the Columbus Crew, the two teams will play in the inaugural Pioneer Cup: A Tribute to Lamar Hunt, on Sunday, March 11, 2007 at Pizza Hut Park (5 p.m. CT). The Pioneer Cup, which will be played in Columbus next year, will serve as a fundraiser for each team's charitable foundation, with all net proceeds from the game donated to a local cause.

A Alumni Tribute Game between former players and coaches that were part of a Lamar Hunt owned team, including the Dallas Tornado, Kansas City Wizards, FC Dallas, and the Columbus Crew, will kickoff the activities at 3 p.m. on March 11. FC Dallas will also debut a commemorative circle patch with the initial "LH" on the right sleeve of the uniform, which will also be used during the MLS season. Mr. Hunt, who oversaw the creation of both Crew Stadium and Pizza Hut Park, passed away on Dec. 13, 2006 after a battle with cancer.

"The Pioneer Cup is an event that is near and dear to all of us at FC Dallas," said FC Dallas General Manager Michael Hitchcock. "We have a chance to honor our great leader and everything he's done for this sport that we all love, while raising much needed money for Dallas Scores and the Pioneer Soccer League, in his honor. We look forward to seeing all sports fans at Pizza Hut Park to help us pay tribute to a true sports pioneer, Lamar Hunt."

For the first edition of the Pioneer Cup, the FC Dallas Foundation has partnered with Dallas SCORES, a youth development program that inspires a lasting dedication to learning, healthy lifestyles, and community engagement among inner-city public school students. Dallas SCORES, an affiliate of America SCORES, uses a combination of soccer, creative writing and service-learning for students in a safe, constructive learning environment after school five days a week. Students that agree to make an equal commitment to creative writing workshops will participate in a soccer league, which will be re-named the Pioneer Soccer League in honor of Lamar Hunt.

"We are extremely excited to be named the charity of choice for an event honoring such a great pioneer," added Steve Christensen, founder and board member of Dallas SCORES. "Lamar Hunt's impact on soccer in North America is second to none. Having his name as well as FC Dallas attached to this event will go a long way towards impacting more children in the Dallas area."

Contributions may be made through a variety of means, including by naming your price for tickets to the Pioneer Cup as well as in exchange for sponsorship and marketing opportunities. Tickets for the game are available for a minimum contribution of $5 for endline seats or $10 for sideline seats, however fans may contribute any higher amount per ticket. FCD Hoops Nation members and season ticket holder may begin ordering their tickets through a presale from today through Saturday, Feb. 4. Parking for this event will be free.

As a point of reference, a $100 contribution would roughly cover the expenses of one child per year participating in the Pioneer Soccer League. Individuals or organizations that cannot attend and would like to contribute to this cause may do so through the online form found at www.fcdallas.net or by calling the FC Dallas office at 888-FCD-GOAL (888-323-4625). For sponsorship opportunities such as Presenting Sponsor or in-stadium signage, please call Matt McInnis 214.705.6777.

The winning team will keep the Pioneer Cup, while the losing side will donate $1000 to the other team's foundation. Fans will have an opportunity to bid on the game-worn jerseys of the players with all proceeds going to the Dallas SCORES Pioneer League cause.

Recognized as one of the greatest sports visionaries in American history, Lamar Hunt pioneered professional soccer in the United States. In 1967, Hunt became an original investor in the Dallas Tornado Soccer Club, in what was known initially as the United Soccer Association and then the North American Soccer League in 1968. A model franchise during its 14 years, the organization and its legacy of soccer disciples was an early catalyst in the development of the game, placing North Texas at the cutting edge of the American youth soccer market.

The Hunt family once again stepped to the forefront of U.S. soccer in 1996 by becoming a charter investor in Major League Soccer, and became original investor-operators of the charter teams from Columbus (Ohio) and Kansas City. Hunt made his greatest contribution to soccer in this country in 1998-99, when he made pro soccer history by funding the construction of the first soccer-specific stadium in the United States as the Columbus Crew opened their revolutionary facility. In 1999, he was awarded the National Soccer Hall of Fame Medal of Honor and saw the U.S. Open Cup Tournament renamed in his honor.

The Hunt family took over the operations of Dallas in 2003, and helped make Texas soccer history by breaking ground on the team's Pizza Hut Park, the 20,500 seat, state-of-the-art soccer-specific stadium in Frisco which became the first soccer stadium in the country built through a coordination of both private and public funds.

Warren Harris

Warren Harris is a local photographer/artist that can be found here.  I have included two of his photos taken in Frisco. In his own words:

Collin County Image
The first is the lighted foot which adorns the entrance to the practice soccer fields at the Dr. Pepper stadium on Main St.  This shot was taken around 7:30pm on February 1st, in between snowstorms.  I was headed up the tollway to ElDorado to make a quick stop at the new Home Depot for some Mini Maglight flashlights I need for nighttime photography.  I noticed this bright splash of color out of the corner of my eye and just had to investigate.  As I approached the soccer fields I observed the lighting around the base of the foot changing colors, from red to yellow to green to blue and combinations in between, every minute or so. This was an something I just had to capture.  I quickly called my wife, asked if she could hold dinner another 15 minutes and found a good vantage point.  I used exposures from 4-10 seconds, with this one being 8 seconds, and the outside temperature was 33 degrees. To get this photo I spent almost 15 minutes standing in the street in front of the park entrance, waiting for each change of color (while shivering) -- then taking each exposure, checking the results and recalculating for the next exposure. A total of 10 exposures were taken to get the desired effect.
Brrrr...

The second image is of the El Dorado bridge shot from the east side -- again between snowstorms, but around 3:30am on February 2nd.  I'd had my eye on this bridge for some time and the fresh layer of snow combined with ice crystals and water vapor in the air made for an excellent combination, so it was my first stop of the  night.  I approached from the west side but couldn't find a place to park that was close enough, yet out of the way, so I went over the bridge to the east side, found the same problem and made a U-turn and just parked off the road on my way back up.  The vantage point from that side was exactly what I was looking for.

My wife has said for years I should open a donut shop ( I wake up at 3:00 - 4:30am every day) but since I don't eat donuts I felt my time could be better spent recording the images most people never see (or notice). The "average" frequently becomes the extraordinary in the absence of daylight - something I discovered in 1971 after the Sylmar Earthquake up-ended Los Angeles and the citizens therein. I found myself having difficulty sleeping for weeks after being abruptly tossed from my bed before dawn one morning. That was when I discovered time-lapse photography.
